During the summer, Adrian Marcel’s, 2 Am was getting a lot of buzz on the radio and on BET. Yet, the sound was similar to many other songs out at the time, so I just brushed it over. This was until I watched Keyshia Cole on The Breakfast Club. During the interview, the name Adrian Marcel was mentioned and received a co-sign from Charlamagne The God for his mixtape Weak After Next. After hearing that, I knew it was time for me to wake up and stop sleeping on Adrian Marcel. I am so glad that I did.

For a first time listener, 2 AM does nothing to justify Adrian Marcel’s artistry. Yet, Weak After Next makes up for that. Presented by Raphael Saadiq (YES RAPHAEL SAADIQ) and hosted by DJ’s Carisma, Amen, and Don Cannon, the boy shows that he can SANG, which is not exemplified by 2 AM. Weak After Next tells a love story that includes catching Feelings, stopping his interest from Runnin’ away, and then the realization that It’s Over. Marcel even includes his own versions of Drake’s Girl’s Love Beyonce, along with a soulful conclusion to Weak After Next with the cover of James Brown’s It’s A Man’s World.

If he alone is not enough, for a new artist, Marcel gains some major features from Kelly Rowland (Honey), E-40 (2 Fingerz) and Snoop Dogg (Searching). For these talented names to lend their voices to someone who is lesser known speaks volumes for the faith that is held in Marcel’s craft.

While names like Mila J and Tinashe are ruling the breakouts of 2014, Adrian Marcel is the stand alone male who has a great backing behind him to keep his name around for a time to come.
