In honor of Black History Month, each Throwback Thursday, from now until March, will be dedicated to a historical African-American musical artist! Today’s throwback is the late Nina Simone’s riveting track Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood. Simone’s unique, deep, chilling voice could make any song of hers powerful. Not only did she have a voice that could stop someone in their tracks, but she also was involved in the Civil Rights Movement. Songs of hers like Mississippi Goddamn and Old Jim Crow were considered anthems for the movement. They hit home the sentiment that, at that time, change would never come. Nina Simone, music fans thank you for all that you have done to uplift and cause awareness, and today we honor you!
